Invisible Sun Protection for All

Sunscreen is hands down the most important part of your daily skincare routine to help prevent premature aging, and our new invisible mineral sunscreen formula is a gamechanger. Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen is super safe (100% non-nano zinc oxide is good for your complexion and the environment), blends into all skin tones without a trace, guaranteed, and is designed for daily wear; you can even swap it for your regular moisturizer.

Here are answers to the top 5 questions you’re asking about our latest launch of an invisible mineral sunscreen:

  1. Why non-nano zinc oxide?

Zinc oxide is the most effective broad-spectrum, physical sun protector available, blocking both UVA (think A for Aging) and UVB (think B for Burn) rays. It’s also gentle and anti-inflammatory, making it a great choice for people with sensitive skin, rosacea, and acne. Non-nano formulas are less likely to be absorbed into the bloodstream or harm reefs or other aquatic life.

  1. Is there a difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?

Yes. Mineral (a.k.a. physical) sunscreen sits on top of the skin’s surface to create a protective, reflective barrier against UV rays, like tiny mirrors. Unlike chemical sunscreen, it doesn’t degrade or lose efficacy when exposed to the sun. Chemical sunscreen acts more like a sponge, absorbing UV rays, converting them into heat and then releasing the heat from the skin. Chemical sunscreen ingredients can sometimes be irritating to sensitive skin.

  1. Why did you choose SPF 30?

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) measures a product’s ability to protect your skin from UVB rays. It’s not meant to determine how long you can stay in the sun without getting burned. Most dermatologists recommend SPF 30 since higher SPFs don’t provide much more sun protection. For example, while SPF 30 sunscreen protects against 97% of the sun’s burning rays, SPF 50 only moves the needle to 98%.

  1. Do I need to wear sunscreen on cloudy days?

UVA sun damage causes about 90% of visible skin aging. While it’s tempting to skip your sunscreen step when skies are grey, clouds only block about 20% of all UV rays so your skin is still exposed to the sun’s harsh effects. Daily sunscreen wear is definitely your best bet for preventing premature aging.

  1. How much sunscreen should I be using?

The squalane in our ultra-hydrating invisible mineral sunscreen formula creates the perfect glide for easy and fast application. About 1-2 teaspoons are all you need for your face, neck, and chest. Just be sure to reapply this invisible mineral sunscreen every two hours for consistent sun protection.
