Squalane is the powerhouse ingredient at the heart of every Biossance formula. It's bioidentical to the moisture found in human skin, making it weightless and instantly absorbed and perfect for use all over the body. Our squalane is derived from sustainable sugarcane, a purer, vegan, more ethical, and more effective version than other forms of squalane. And since it replaces the need for similar moisture taken from the livers of sharks, it saves millions of these critical apex predators per year.
- Squalane oil for the face instantly hydrates and locks in essential moisture.
- Helps boost the absorption of other active ingredients and enables them to work more effectively.
- Promotes microbiome diversity for healthier-looking skin.

JUST ONE INGREDIENT:
Squalane Oil: Weightless, hydrating and high-performing oil, sustainably sourced from sugarcane. Replenishes lost-moisture, helps to maintain hydration and leave the skin exceptionally soft.
1. WHERE DOES YOUR 100% SQUALANE COME FROM? WHY SUGARCANE AND NOT OLIVES?
Traditionally Squalane was harvested from shark liver, though our scientists spent years developing pure Squalane from 100% plant-based, renewable sugarcane. The quality of Squalane produced from olives depends on unreliable factors like weather and crop growth. The quality and purity of our sugarcane Squalane is stable and cost effective.
2. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SQUALANE AND SQUALENE?
The human body produces SqualEne. Squalene is part of our skin's own natural moisture, but the amount made and retained in your skin decreases over time. Our Squalane is a hydrogenated version of Squalene which makes it more suitable for sensitive skin. Additionally, our sugarcane-derived Squalane is a sustainable alternative to the historical production method of squalene from shark liver. Our background in biotechnology allows us to create products that are effective and sustainably sourced wherever possible.
3. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 100% SQUALANE OIL AND SQUALANE + VITAMIN C ROSE OIL? DO I NEED BOTH?
While they both contain super hydrating Squalane, our Vitamin C Rose Oil also contains...(you guessed it!) Vitamin C and rose essential oil, making it suitable for facial use. Our 100% Squalane Oil can be used head-to-toe as an all-over body, face and hair hydrator.
Squalane Oil For Face: Rub a small amount of pure squalane oil together between hands to warm. Pat gently onto face, neck and décolleté.
Squalane Oil For Body: Massage a few pumps onto skin immediately after showering, paying close attention to areas needing extra hydration like arms, legs, and knees.
Squalane Oil For Hair: Rub a small amount of pure squalane oil between hands and smooth through dry or wet hair to add shine and tame flyaways, split ends and frizz.
TIPS:
Use 100% squalane as a cuticle oil.

Great lightweight oil
This contains 100% squalane which immediately hydrates and smoothes our skin. I’m using this as the last part of my night time skincare routine. It's a multipurpose oil for hair, face and body. I would recommend this to dry sensitive skin types.

Skin doesn’t agree
I like the feel of this oil, it’s lightweight and nourishing. But for some reason my skin just doesn’t like squalene oil. I originally tried the olive derived form and it was a no-go, so I thought I’d try this sugarcane derived one. My skin had the same reaction.. broke out and got irritated. If your skin likes squalene, however, I’d recommend this as it seems to be good quality.

Multi purpose oil!
What I like about the squaline oil is you can essentially use it wherever. I like to put it on my hands elbows and face at night to lock in the rest of my skincare regime.

Really nice!
I have really dry skin and I thought this oil was really hydrating and made my skin feel nice. I use it after I shower on my body. However, I would not recommend putting this oil on your face if your skin is sensitive because it made my skin break out which surprised me because I rarely break out because I have dry skin. I would use this oil sparingly until you know your skin can take it!

Love this product
I was hesitant to use oil in my daily skincare but I am obsessed! I use this not only as the last step in my skincare but also on my hair in the mornings and on my body after a shower. I don’t notice any powerful scent and it is so silky and non-greasy. I only wish it came in a larger bottle since I use it for everything

Biossance Rocks!
This is a wonderful squalane! It absorbs well and softens quickly, whether it’s used body or face. I appreciate that all Biossance squalane products are made with plants.

Soft skin!
Love this product! I live in a house that heats by wood stove so it's incredible dry in the fall and winters. Typically, at this point in the season my hands have cracked and I'm dry all over. But this product has changed that! No splitting cuticles, no cracked thumbs, no ashy elbows! I also have keratosis pilaris, also known as chicken skin, and I've never found anything to help with it. While this product hasn't done away with all the visible red bumps, it has done an incredible job of minimizing most of the redness as well as making my skin feel soft for the first time in decades. Highly recommended!
