Clean Beauty Today, Cleaner Planet Tomorrow

For us at Biossance, our obsession with clean beauty goes way beyond using non-toxic and non-harmful ingredients. The fact that we ban over 2000 suspicious substances from our products is just the beginning. We believe that to truly be the leader in clean, sustainable beauty, everything we do—from sourcing our ingredients to how we ship products to you—should reflect our commitment to leaving this planet a better place than we found it.

Our Squalane Saves Sharks

The ocean’s apex predators have long been hunted for their squalene—an oil in their livers used in skincare and makeup products—but Biossance scientists pioneered the creation of renewable sugarcane-derived squalane, and this vegan hydrator is at the heart of every one of our products. We’re proud that our innovation saves 2 million of these critical members of the ocean ecosystem every year.

Conscious, Sustainable Packaging

Some brands take clean ingredients and then package them in non-recyclable virgin plastic. Not Biossance— all the main components of our bottles and tubes are completely recyclable, and the outer cartons of our packaging are made from sugarcane paperboard, without bleaching chemicals or dyes. We choose not to use any metallic inks or dyes on our packaging that could affect their recyclability.

We’re constantly investigating new, innovative sustainable packaging materials and designs, working with manufacturers who are leaders in reducing environmental impact.

Repurposed Product Jars and Bottles

If you’re not ready to part with your favorite Biossance product once it’s gone, that’s okay. In fact, we encourage you to find a new use for our glass jars and bottles. After a thorough rinse, our 100% squalane oil bottle can make for a great soap dispenser. Our tall, slim antioxidant cleansing oil bottle can live on as a minimal single stem vase. All of our wide-mouthed jars can become mini organizers or travel-sized product containers.

Carbon-Neutral Shipping

For each order shipped, we plant trees—which are incredible, natural detoxifiers— and fund reforestation projects at no additional cost to you. And inside our shipper boxes, you’ll find recycled paper, not plastic cushioning.

Zero-Waste by 2025

We know that thinking sustainably means thinking about the big picture—that means examining what happens at our offices and even beyond our product life cycle. This year, we committed to offsetting our carbon emissions, developing a packaging return redemption program, and reviewing our office paper and plastic consumption.

My industry experience includes years as a beauty editor and leading content for a wide range of skincare and makeup brands. Those experiences led me to Biossance—I was introduced to the brand on an editor press trip in 2017 and instantly fell in love. I toured the labs, created my own 100% Squalane with essential oils, and noticed a dramatic difference in my skin by introducing clean products (especially the Vitamin C Rose Oil) to my regimen. I’m excited to be on this journey with Biossance and be at the forefront of clean beauty innovation.
