Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine

by Michelle McComb March 25, 2018

It's officially spring! Now's the time to tackle all of those little forgotten piles of junk and half-finished projects. It's also a great time to revisit your medicine cabinet and clean up your beauty act. That means junking old, unused and expired products as well as trading products with less than desirable ingredients for cleaner alternatives.

We get asked about routines A LOT, so to help inspire you to spring clean your skincare routine, we created routines for three different skin concerns. And while we don't believe there's a one-size-fits-all order of application, these routines follow the order we recommend get the most benefit out of our products. So read on to find the routine that suits you best.

The first step in any good skincare routine is to cleanse. Even if you don't wear makeup, cleansing the skin at night removes dirt, oil and sweat that builds up throughout the day. If your skin is extra dry or if it produces a lot of excess oil, you can skip the cleansing step in the morning and just use warm water to remove oils that build up overnight. You may find that cleansing less can help reduce over-production of oil.

You'll notice that each routine finishes with our new Squalane + Mineral SPF 45. That's because mineral sunscreens should always be applied last in your skincare routine, before your makeup, so they can properly protect your skin by reflecting UV light.

The key takeaway with all of these routines is applying products from most water content to least. This is the order that makes most sense for you skin to absorb the key ingredients. But feel free to play around! You might find your skin reacts best by applying products in a different order.

I’m what I like to call a beauty “holy grail seeker”, which means I own 150+ nude/pink shades of lipstick and am still on the hunt for the best one. When it comes to skincare, I believe in real ingredients that actually work, not marketing fluff. In my free time, I perform in musicals and play Pickleball. Previously of ipsy and K&L Wines.

Hi!

I just purchased the Rose oil and also the squalene (I have dry skin!) and am wondering what the best order is to layer them? I’ve replaced my serum with the rose oil and the squalene as my moisturizer and put it on over the oil but not sure if that’s the best way to do it. Also, I’m planning to incorporate the sun protection as the last layer as well.

Thanks!
Alex

With all of the day-to-day things to think about, worrying about whether your deodorant is clean and effective shouldn’t be one of them. You need something that you can apply and go forth in the world with confidence. Let me introduce you to your underarms’ new best friend: Squalane + Bamboo Deodorant.
