Biossance Global Brand Ambassador Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Philippe joined Biossance in supporting Oceana at the nonprofit’s Sea Change Summer Party on Saturday, July 22 at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club in Dana Point, California.
The mother-daughter duo joined top influencers Eryn Krouse, Zoya Biglary, Amelie Zilber, and Alix Traeger as well as Biossance Global President Catherine Gore and team in supporting Oceana’s remarkable legislative achievements in preventing the harvesting of sharks for their fins, preserving marine habitats, and curbing overfishing.
“The Perfect Summer Night”
The magical evening began with 400 VIP guests walking down the blue carpet toward the event space overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Guests enjoyed dinner, a fund-raising auction, and a performance from Third Eye Blind while celebrating Oceana’s achievements and raising money to support marine conservation.
“The perfect summer night with my girl @avaphilippe learning all about @oceana incredible conservation work,” said Reese via Instagram as she posted a photo of herself and Ava getting ready for the event wearing matching white robes.
Supporting Oceana’s Global Impact
The sixteenth annual Sea Change Summer Party was held to support Oceana, the largest international advocacy non-profit organization focused solely on ocean conservation. Biossance’s mission of clean beauty through biotechnology beautifully complements Oceana’s policy-driven approach to keeping our oceans healthy and abundant.
Because the oceans cover 70% of our planet, ocean health is critical to solving some of the world’s most pressing issues—from climate change to food insecurity. Support for Oceana helps restore and protect thriving ecosystems that mitigate the effects of global warming—and secure sustainable fisheries around the world to feed a billion people a healthy seafood meal every day.
With your help, we’ve been able to donate more than $500,000 to Oceana via special-edition product releases, round-up donations, and shark adoptions. We’re proud to support Oceana in winning major victories for our oceans, including the historic ban on buying and selling shark fins in the United States
Honoring Morgan Freeman
The evening featured an emotional speech from actor and activist Morgan Freeman, who was honored for his pivotal role in helping pass the US ban on shark fin trade. A tireless environmental advocate, Freeman joined Oceana on Capitol Hill in 2017 to push for crucial legislation aimed at protecting sharks to preserve biodiversity and restore marine ecosystems.
With the sun setting behind him, Freeman praised Oceana’s success while calling attention to the work that still needs to be done.
“I’ve worked with Oceana and seen up close how effective they are. I’ve seen how they are saving sharks and other ocean creatures and how they are winning policy victories for our seas. And right now, we need Oceana more than ever,” said Freeman. “This old sailor would like to thank and honor all the ocean heroes in this room for being so helpful to save my second home. Our oceans need each and every one of us.”
