Instant Skin Gratification

by Mollie Jensen August 02, 2018

We’re so excited to introduce our new Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial, a triple threat to dull, dry, rough skin. It’s a complexion game changing 3-in-1 instant facial that renews like a peel, smoothes like an exfoliator and hydrates like a mask. Want to learn how it does all of that? Read on...

It starts with, you guessed it, glycolic acid. Glycolic is one of a group of ingredients known as alphahydroxy acids—or AHAs—found in a variety of foods and plants. AHAs have the ability to gently peel the skin by loosening dead cells and preventing them from sticking to the skin’s surface. In addition to glycolic, this fruit cocktail of a facial includes AHAs lactic, malic, tartaric and a few other acids from lemon, orange, sugar maple and bilberry.

There’s a good reason why we packed it full of all these skin renewing AHAs. To explain, let’s start with a short chemistry lesson. Each acid varies in molecular size so penetrate the skin a little differently. For instance, glycolic has the smallest molecular structure so it goes the deepest and acts quickly to boost cell turnover. Next is lactic, which in addition to cell renewing properties, softens and moisturizes skin. The smaller molecule acids are malic and tartaric, which work more on the skin’s surface, and act more slowly and gently. This combination of AHAs target multiple layers of the skin to effectively remove dead cells throughout the skin’s surface.

On top of all that acidy goodness, Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial features fine mineral spheres that gently exfoliate to leave skin incredibly smooth and soft. These ocean-safe skin polishers make the perfect AHA partner by helping to remove the dead cells loosened by the acids, and because of their round, spherical shape, don’t tear the skin the way jagged scrubs using ground walnut shells do.

As I've already mentioned, this 3-in-1 game changer renews like a peel (with AHAs), smoothes like an exfoliator (with fine mineral spheres), but how does it hydrate like a mask? It’s our mega-moisturizing sugarcane-derived squalane, of course. This, along with hyaluronic acid, helps replenish so your skin feels soft and nourished, not dry or dehydrated like with other peels or exfoliators.

When beginning any type of exfoliating process, start out slowly. You’ll most likely experience a little tingling while it’s on, so just notice what your skin is telling you. Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial can be used up to two times a week, but maybe your skin only wants to use it once or twice a month. No matter how often you use it, what you’ll see is healthier-looking skin with increased radiance, and with continued use, visibly clearer pores and refined texture. You’ll also notice the appearance of fine lines and discoloration begin to fade—just remember to protect your freshly polished skin with Squalane + Mineral SPF 45 during the day.

This triple change agent, glow-boosting facial works quickly—no appointment required.

Until next time,

My lifelong obsession with the world of beauty started at an early age and kicked off right out of high school as a makeup artist. My dreams of being the next big thing in Hollywood took a detour as I discovered esthetics and became fascinated with how the skin functions. From there I worked post-operatively with patients in a burn trauma unit, helping them care for their skin and conceal their scars. This led to product formulation and the world of aromatherapy where I began my career in product development. As a consultant for several years working with many startups, I quickly became the go-to in helping launch and rebrand product lines, my specialties in product formulation, regulatory compliant copywriting and building cohesive brand personalities. My love of natural and sustainable beauty led me to Biossance, where I happily reside as Senior Marketing Manager for new product development.

Ever wonder why every time the season changes your skin totally freaks out? Well, colder weather brings drier air that can make keeping your skin supple and hydrated a challenge. Even those of us with oily skin find that suddenly, our skin has more micro-climates than San Francisco. Couple the natural shifts in temperature with heating systems to keep us toasty and our skin’s moisture just doesn’t stand a chance.
