Retinol Night Serum: Squalane and Retinol, Reimagined
Meet our new
Why Do You Need Retinol?
How Do Retinoids Benefit The Skin?
Retinoids, such as retinol and retinaldehyde (aka “retinal”):
- Increase cell renewal and growth
- Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve uneven skin tone
- Reverse visible sun damage
- Increase skin firmness
- Boost collagen
- Improve the look of blemishes
- Promote skin radiance
Why Do Retinoids Sometimes Irritate The Skin?
- The skin is exposed to too much active ingredient all at once, causing skin cells to turn over too quickly and exposing immature skin cells.
- The retinoids in the product are unstable and have broken down, reducing their efficacy and increasing the chances of irritation.
Fortunately, our scientists were able to develop a retinol night serum that solves both problems, minimizing irritation while delivering a powerfully effective formula.
How We Reimagined Retinol
There are three key differences between our
Two Kinds Of Retinoids. We use both retinol, the gold standard for promoting youthful-looking skin, and retinal, the most powerful - and gentle - nonprescription retinoid, for double the power without the irritation. Our Time Release Technology. We encapsulate our retinoids to ensure maximum stability and absorption. The Vitamin A derivitive remains active within the skin and is gradually released over 8 hours while you sleep for minimal irritation. Our Squalane-Superpowered Delivery System. Our cruelty-free, sugarcane-based squalane delivers up to 40 times more of active skincare ingredients. In this retinol face serum, squalane makes our encapsulated retinoids work harder while keeping your skin hydrated, further minimizing risk of flaking, redness or irritation.
Retinol, Reimagined
What’s The Difference Between Squalane + Retinol Night Serum And Prescription Retinol?
Our resurfacing retinol serum contains two powerfully gentle retinoids:
- Retinaldehyde. The most powerful – and the gentlest – retinoid available without a prescription, retinaldehyde needs only one conversion to retinoic acid on the skin.
- Retinol. Retinol is a best-in-class ingredient with proven efficacy in smoothing fine lines and wrinkles while improving skin texture and tone. It goes through two conversions before becoming retinoic acid.

FAQ
Is your retinol “clean”? Yes. Our Squalane + Retinol Night Serum is made with sustainably-sourced ingredients that are safe for people and the planet. Who should use this retinol serum? Retinol is best for those concerned with signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. It can be used as both a preventative and corrective treatment.
Can I use Squalane + Retinol Night Serum if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding? No. Please use our Squalane + Phyto Retinol Serum instead.
Is this retinol night treatment safe for melanated skin tones? Absolutely!
Can I use this night serum in the morning? No. Retinoids cause immediate, rapid cell turnover. If you use our retinol night treatment during the day, you’re exposing those brand new baby cells to harmful UV rays and doing more harm than good.
Why do I need to use sunscreen if I’m only using retinol at night? Your skin has been hard at work all night, building collagen and revealing fresh new skin cells. These cells are especially vulnerable to the sun, and exposing them to UV rays can lead to sun damage.
Can I use this along with a bakuchiol product? We developed two different products for two types of customer’s unique needs. Please choose the single product that suits yours best.
Should I use a plant-based bakuchiol or should I use retinol? Which one is more effective? The answer depends on what’s important to you. If you are concerned with lines and wrinkles and other visible skin aging, but also have sensitive skin, are prone to sunburn and/or are pregnant/lactating, Squalane + Phyto Retinol Serum may be a better choice. If your main concern is lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging and you are looking for faster and stronger actives, then Squalane + Retinol Night Serum may be a good option for you. How can I combine this retinol face serum with other Biossance serums? We recommend using Squalane + Retinol Night Serum in the evening. In the morning, use either our Squalane + Vitamin C Dark Spot Serum or Squalane + Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping Serum depending on your skincare goals. Since our retinol is a powerful serum, we don’t recommend layering with other treatment products, but do encourage you to layer with other moisturizers and oils. Our Squalane + Omega Repair Cream and Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil are both beautiful compliments to a routine including retinol.
Can I use Squalane + Retinol Night Serum with an AHA product? Yes, but not at the same time. In this case, use Squalane + Retinol Night Serum every other night, and your chemical exfoliant, such as our Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum orSqualane + Glycolic Renewal Mask on your off nights.
Where should I store my retinol serum? Our Squalane + Retinol Night Serum is built to remain stable, so we recommend the same general rule of thumb that applies to all skincare products: store it in a cool, dry place such as a drawer or cabinet. Learn more about skincare expiration and storage.
Does your product contain BHT? BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), is a synthetic additive used as an antioxidant and stabilizer. It’s controversial due to potential health concerns at high doses. There are conflicting reports on its safety, so we choose to avoid it.
Is your product fragrance-free? Yes. Any odor you may notice comes from the base ingredients listed on the packaging, not added fragrance.
