Biossance: What inspired you to start a career in skincare?JKS:I was always interested in the beauty realm but could never find the best options for my skin as a person of color. I made it my mission to learn more about the skin and be an expert for all skin types.
As a licensed aesthetician, I’ve worked everywhere from medspas and dermatologists’ offices to luxury brands, and I’m passionate about helping others embrace skincare as selfcare and improve the health of their largest organ.Biossance: What are the two most common mistakes you see people making with their skincare? JKS: Failing to apply SPF daily and neglecting their neck during their skin care routine.
SPF is a must year-round and you need to bring it—and the rest of your skincare—down to your neck. People don’t realize how similar the skin on their neck is to the skin on their face. It’s a delicate area and can be subject to sun damage and premature aging, which is easily preventable with a little TLC.
Biossance: What has been your most rewarding experience as a Clean Beauty Advisor so far?JKS: Helping clients who truly do not know where to start in their skincare journey. When they get a chance to speak to me as an expert through our live chat, they feel a sense of relief that they’ve been heard and provided with the right tools to improve their skin’s health. Biossance: You’ve spent more than 15 years working in skincare all over the world. What inspired your journey?MB:As a child growing up in New Orleans, both my aunt and my mother were both very involved in skincare and makeup. I learned to take care of my skin and apply makeup at a very young age for my dance performances. My mother always stressed the importance of taking care of my skin as she had suffered with early adult acne. Later in my adult life, I moved to Paris and experienced some of the top brands and spas in the world. This renewed my passion for skincare and self-care, and I returned to New York to study skincare in my native language and become a licensed aesthetician. Later I opened a spa in Paris and worked in various European countries and the Middle East.I’m really passionate about connecting with clients and helping them learn how to best care for themselves!Biossance: What has been your most satisfying experience as a Clean Beauty Advisor so far? MB:Helping a dark-skinned client who struggled her whole life to embrace her skin color and was bleaching her skin. I was honored and grateful to offer my assistance and humbled by her courage while simultaneously being in awe of her beauty. I was so overcome with gratitude to hold space for her.Biossance: What are your favorite Biossance products and why?MB:I love the Vitamin C Rose Moisturizer because it’s a quick-acting heavy hitter that delivers fast results without being irritating. Biossance: Tell us a little bit about how you got started in the beauty industry. What inspired you to pursue a career in skincare?EB:The client is my inspiration! I’ve been working in beauty since 2009 and have always loved helping people feel and look their best. As a Clean Beauty Advisor, I wholeheartedly enjoy embarking on each client’s unique skincare journey. I love meeting, teaching, and creating a connection with people and their skin.Biossance: What has been your most satisfying experience as a Clean Beauty Advisor so far?EB:I feel satisfied when a client is ecstatic about their experience. I have a Biossance client who has followed me for my whole skincare career. We keep in touch to this day and have even talked about my own personal skin journey!Biossance: What are your top three favorite Biossance products and why?EB:EEK! It’s so hard to choose! I’d definitely choose Peptide Eye Gel because I love how it depuffs and reduces dark circles. It gives you a natural, rested look even when you’re running on empty.
I also love our Marine Algae Eye Cream for its immediate lifting and plumping effect. It’s instant gratification in a jar!
And for number three I’d choose Probiotic Gel Moisturizer. People with oily skin often assume they don’t need moisturizer, but that’s a huge mistake. I love this one because the probiotics really help balance and soothe the skin and the ultralight gel texture never feels sticky or greasy, even during the summertime.
